The aim of this General Information is to advise potential delegates about the Congress venue/location and other related information pertaining to the Congress and destination.

About the Professional Conference Organiser

SDI is an autonomous non-profit research institute entrusted to undertake inter-disciplinary research on pertinent development issues related to the state and nation for policy inputs to the government and other private organisations/clients. SDI provides a range of services tailored to deliver your desired outcomes. What sets SDI apart from other organisations is our ability to provide you with a start to finish package, from the preparation and running of the event right up to generating proceedings and reports for publications and public consumptions. Through our extensive experience in research and the organisation and management of international and local conferences, seminars, and workshops, SDI has built up an invaluable knowledge of local cultures, practices and policies as well as an advantageous and extensive network with those in the government sector and the industry to successfully undertake projects in collaboration with national and international organisations in Sarawak and beyond. Our extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of the industry make for that professional touch and reliability when producing your event needs.

SDI is part of the Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) group which consists of AZAM, Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd (FMM), Faradale Enterprise and Faradale Holdings. 

The Host City

General information on Kuching, Sarawak:

Sarawak, the state of Kuching city covers an area of 125,000 sq. km., the largest of Malaysia’s 13 states. It is located in the heart of Southeast Asia, and is one of the two Malaysian states nestled in the island of Borneo.

Sarawak enjoys a tropical climate which is moderately hot and receives substantial rainfall. Its average daytime temperature is between 23 to 32 degrees Celsius.

Our national language is Malay. However, English is widely spoken throughout the State.

Kuching International Airport (KIA)

thumb1KIA is served by Malaysia Airlines, MASwings, Air Asia, Royal Brunei Airlines, Batavia Air, SilkAir and Tiger Airways.

Arrival to KIA from outside Sarawak is subject to an immigration check. The Immigration Counters are at Level 2, and the Baggage Claim area is at Level 1 (Ground Floor).

Money Changer at the airport:
RHB Bank has one foreign exchange outlet at Kuching International Airport, outside the arrival hall (Level 1).

ATM Machine (24 hours):
Various machines accept major credit cards including VISA, MasterCard, Cirrus, Plus and Bankcard. These ATM machines are under Maybank, Bumiputera Commerce Bank and RHB Bank.

Wireless Access:
KFC Restaurant and Starbucks Coffee offer complimentary high speed Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi) to its customers.


 

Visa Requirement

thumb1No visa is required for a stay of less than one month for nationals of all ASEAN countries except Myanmar. For a stay exceeding one month, a visa will be required, except for Brunei and Singapore nationals. Commonwealth countries that require visas include Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Accommodation

thumb1Delegates are advised to arrange for their own accommodation. The nearest hotels recommended are Pullman Kuching, Hilton Kuching, Somerset Gateway Kuching, Batik Boutique Hotel, Grand Margherita Hotel, Grand Continental Hotel, Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites, The LimeTree Hotel and Harbour View Hotel. Budget accommodations are also available and the recommended ones are 360 Xpress Citycenter, Tune Hotels.com Waterfront Kuching, Basaga Holiday Residences, Pinnacles Lodge and Singgahsana Lodge.

The Congress venue also offers affordable 5-star accommodation.
